Sarah Apgar is Founder and CEO of Fitfighter, Army Veteran, fitness professional, public speaker, and proud mom of two daughters. Fitfighter’s equipment and training, inspired by firefighting, aim to improve readiness, performance, and results in the moments that matter most. Training academies, performance centers, gyms, bootcamps, fire departments, and instructors use Fitfighter’s system in myriad ways — for group, team, private, interval, weight-based, and ad hoc training.
Prior to launching Fitfighter, Sarah’s career as a startup and fitness professional stemmed from a four year career in the Army Engineers Corps. During her military service, Sarah deployed to Mosul, Iraq in 2003 as a Platoon Leader for the 52nd Engineer Battalion attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Upon leaving the service, Sarah launched her first enterprise, the Alpine Summer Term for teenagers in Lenk, Switzerland. After receiving her MBA, she served as the Director of New Stores and Facilities for Warby Parker. In this capacity, Sarah built the retail expansion team from the ground up and oversaw the design, procurement, construction and turnover for Warby’s first 50 locations in 23 US States and Canada.
Sarah has a BA from Princeton University, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and is a candidate for an MS in Sports Psychology from CalSouthern University. She is a two-time All-American collegiate rugby player and a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor with the American Council on Exercise. Missing the camaraderie of the military, Sarah became a qualified volunteer firefighter and is a former NY State certified Emergency Medical Technician and Wilderness EMT.
Above all, Sarah’s greatest honor is as namesake of the Apgar Award at Princeton University, bestowed by fellow teammates upon her graduation and awarded annually to the Most Valuable Player on the women’s rugby team.
Among many passions, Sarah loves her husband Ben Smith, their two beautiful angels, her rat terrier Jackson, powder skiing, hot chocolate, outdoor gear, tinkering in the garage, and smiling a lot.
