Rough moment: When the boiler blows in the dead of winter

boilerblows.JPG

Typical timing. We had an unexpected turn of events: a boiler disaster following five weeks of relative mayhem with Nancy’s surgical challenges, holiday travel, and childcare excitement. The silver lining: a great play date story, and a glorious three nights with the ladies and Jack in Cornwall-on-Hudson NY with beloved grandma and grandpa. We are grateful and humbled by the beautiful relationship Emory (and Arlyn although she has no idea what’s going on yet) has with her grandparents. It feels so warm and pure. We shacked up in an epic snowstorm, watched birds in the birdfeeder, unfurled the “big flag” 100 times, made play dough cookies, cuddled Jack and Lucy, ran in circles through the house, took group baths, made snow angels, and watched the Swedish Chef (“again gandpa, again!”). Meanwhile mom bounced from the Cornwall public library to 2 Alice’s coffee shop to Woody’s hamburger house in search of wi-fi and good nooks for conference calls with reasonable background noise. Feeling truly blessed for flexibility in workplace so that I could care for our family and also stay productive. Ode to 2018. As I sit here and write, I am hearing the radiators whir for the first time in a week. Let the heating begin, but let the love and chaos never end!
